Indonesian at Victor Harbor R-7
Learning a second language is a valuable process for students. Research has proven that children who learn a second language can out perform children who don’t, in all subject areas. This is because a bilingual brain is able to process things faster. Learning another language also helps to reinforce children’s understanding of English and expand their cultural awareness.
Through community consultation, Indonesian was chosen as the LOTE (Language Other Than English) at Victor Harbor Primary School and is taught from Reception to Year Seven. Our program is rich in language and cultural experiences. Games, songs, and cooking are some of the activities we use to create an enjoyable and engaging learning environment.
Indonesian is taught throughout the Fleurieu Peninsula and at the Victor Harbor High School, giving students the opportunity to continue their studies through to year 12, if they wish.
